Project Name: The Samai - A Boutique stay
Architecture & Interiors: Spaces + Partners Architects
Location: Bhimtal, Uttarakhand
Client: SANA Enterprises (Mr. Arjun Aggarwal)
Timeline: 16 Months
Branding: 18 Percent Wolf

Nestled in the picturesque landscapes of Bhimtal, Uttarakhand, The Samai is an exquisite boutique stay conceptualized and brought to life by Spaces + Partners Architects. Designed as a tranquil haven for travelers seeking refuge from the bustle of city life, the property is a masterclass in blending contemporary hospitality design with the raw beauty of its natural surroundings.
Architectural Scope and Scale
Commissioned by SANA Enterprises (Mr. Arjun Aggarwal), the project was meticulously developed over a swift 16-month timeline. The spatial planning reflects a balance of intimacy and grandeur:
Site Area: 10,225 sq. ft. (approx. 950 sq. meters)
Built-Up Area: 15,000 sq. ft.
Accommodations: 15 exclusive, well-appointed rooms
Despite its expansive built-up area, capping the property at just 15 rooms ensures an exclusive, highly personalized boutique experience where space, privacy, and peace are the ultimate luxuries.
Design Philosophy: Blending Indoors and Outdoors
The core design philosophy of The Samai hinges on a harmonious connection between the built environment and the majestic Uttarakhand landscape. This is most evident in the property’s reception and lounge area, which serves as the guest’s first handshake with the hotel.
Spaces + Partners Architects intentionally crafted the communal spaces to frame nature. The seating arrangements—featuring plush, comfortable sofas and armchairs—are strategically oriented to offer unobstructed, panoramic vistas of the scenic outdoors. Rather than competing with the landscape, the architecture acts as a viewing gallery for it.
Aesthetic and Atmosphere
To complement the cool, breezy climate of Bhimtal, the interiors are heavily defined by the use of natural wood. The wooden accents and furniture introduce a "raw warmth" to the space, immediately infusing the reception area with a cozy, inviting ambiance.
This meticulous material selection achieves two things:
Grounding the Design: The raw textures of wood echo the forests outside, effectively dissolving the boundaries between the interior and the exterior.
Psychological Comfort: The earthy tones and plush furnishings create a deeply peaceful and rejuvenating atmosphere, setting the tone for an unforgettable stay from the very moment a guest steps through the doors.
The Collaborative Vision
A project of this caliber is elevated by its creative collaborators. The distinct visual identity and branding of The Samai were curated by 18 Percent Wolf, ensuring that the property's ethos translates seamlessly across all guest touchpoints. Meanwhile, the architectural splendor and cozy interiors have been immortalized through the lens of architectural photographer Bharat Aggarwal.
Conclusion
The Samai stands as a testament to thoughtful, context-driven architecture. Spaces + Partners Architects have successfully delivered a boutique stay that doesn't just sit on a plot of land in Bhimtal, but actively converses with it. Through an emphasis on natural materials, strategic spatial planning, and an unwavering focus on the surrounding landscape, The Samai offers a deeply restorative retreat for the modern traveler.
